national security is an issue that has recently attained an iconic status in the media, and personal security is ever on our minds. however, our  relationship to security (and to security personnel) vis-a-vis  freedom of mobility and privacy  remains more ambivalent than ever.

"security"  parses sections of one small found image into a palm-sized spiral-bound booklet. the image is a jpeg found on the web in the weeks after the september 11th attacks. it depicts security forces walking briskly through an airport lounge.

joy garnett is a painter of media images. her interests lie at the uncomfortable intersections  of art + technology, science + the military.  she lives and works in new york city.
